Not because we won't come — we will, at any hour — but because there's someone whose involvement has to come first, and getting that order wrong costs time in the exact circumstances where time matters most.

When you call, these are what we're establishing — and you can answer them before you dial.
Can it be stopped? If the water is escaping and you can't shut it off, that's the highest-urgency version of any plumbing problem, because the damage is still accumulating while we drive. If you've already got it isolated, the situation has changed significantly and we'll tell you honestly whether it can now wait for standard hours.
Is it contaminated? Clean water from a supply line is one job. Sewage or waste water is another — it's a contamination event as well as a plumbing one, and it changes what we bring, how the area is isolated, and whether you should be in the room at all.
Is it still spreading? Water travels along the flattest route rather than the shortest, through ceilings and along joists, reaching rooms that seem unrelated. A leak that has stopped appearing hasn't necessarily stopped — it may have found somewhere else to go.
Two sentences covering those three points tell us more than five minutes of description, and they determine dispatch priority.

Stop using every drain and fixture immediately, keep people and pets away from the affected area, and call. Everything sent down while a line is blocked comes back.
Never. Shut off the cold inlet at the top of the tank, isolate the fuel or power if you can do so safely, and call.
Shut off the main first, open the affected tap, and apply gentle indirect heat only — never a flame or heat gun. If you can't locate the frozen section, or it's inside a wall, call.
